Introduction – Mike Schäfer

My name is Mike Schäfer, originally from Germany, where I spent most of my life before moving abroad. After completing my education, I served in the military and spent ten years in a special forces unit, an experience that shaped my character and strengthened my values of discipline, responsibility, and integrity.

I later transitioned into entrepreneurship and gained international business experience in both Europe and the United States. I lived 14 years in Florida (USA), where I founded and managed a wakeboard cable park, while also operating a second location in Neubrandenburg, Germany. I continued my entrepreneurial journey in Europe for another ten years, developing several projects including the second-largest trampoline park in Europe, as well as a family café business. These years taught me the importance of structure, teamwork, and long-term client relationships.

A few years ago, I moved to Costa Rica with my family. After spending two years in Guanacaste, we chose to settle in Pérez Zeledón, a region that quickly became our new home. We were drawn to its authentic Costa Rican lifestyle, strong local community, fertile land, pleasant climate, and peaceful mountain surroundings. Pérez Zeledón offers a balance that is hard to find – a growing region with great investment potential, yet still rooted in nature, tradition, and genuine people. It is a place where families can thrive and international clients feel welcome.

Here in Pérez Zeledón, I began my career with Engel & Völkers Costa Rica as a Real Estate Advisor. I assist international buyers and investors, specializing in fincas, development land, investment properties, and residential real estate in the regions of Pérez Zeledón, Chirripó, and Costa Ballena.

Together with my wife, I also founded a small animal rescue initiative, where we care for abandoned and stray dogs and help them find loving homes. This project reflects the values that are important to me – responsibility, compassion, and respect for life.

I speak German, English, and Spanish, which allows me to work effectively with clients from around the world and guide them transparently through the entire real estate process in Costa Rica. In my work, I value honesty, reliability, and long-term relationships. Real estate is not just about buying property – it’s about finding the right place for a meaningful life project. I am grateful to call Pérez Zeledón home and proud to be part of Engel & Völkers Costa Rica.
